3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair

A pushchair that is all-terrain and has excellent maneuverability will suit you whether you're seeking a stroller for walking in the woods or for taking a stroll along the high street. These models typically have large wheels and a surprisingly strong suspension for a smooth ride over rough terrain and bumps.

Most are suitable for newborns and include a seat that can be set on a flat surface or a baby carrycot. These vehicles also have tyres that never flatten, usually comprised of foam.

Suspension

A quality all-terrain pushchair should have a sturdy suspension that is specifically designed to be ultra smooth and comfortable on rough terrain. This will help your child feel more relaxed and at ease. The wheels will also be large and typically be puncture-proof to avoid damage from sharp rocks or sticks.

Some all-terrain strollers offer the option to switch between tyres with different conditions. Depending on the kind of terrain you like to explore, some all-terrain pushchairs have an swivel front wheel that can be locked for stability or unlocked for more maneuverability when needed.

For added security Some all-terrain pushchairs include a lockable handbrake which is more accessible to use with your free hand instead of a traditional brake pedal placed on the handlebars' sides. This is a great feature to have in case you prefer to tackle steep hills, especially with children in the seat and lots of shopping bags stashed beneath!

If you don't wish to go as far as an all-terrain stroller, there are plenty of strollers on the market which offer excellent - but not perfect - off-road capabilities, and have great suspension and big wheels. They are generally more affordable than full-on all-terrain buggy options and will still be suitable for short strolls in the countryside or trips to the park.

Many of these strollers are suitable for babies and come with a carrycot or a car seat that is designed for babies. Be aware, however, that when it comes to pushing over bumps and dips, the seats aren't completely flat. According to EU regulations they only have to meet minimum requirements for reclining position of about 150deg. Graco has gotten around this issue with its new 'comfitech in-seat suspension' that lets the seat recline at a more rounded angle for more comfort. It is available on the Lila XP all-terrain pushchair which can be used in conjunction with a compatible Graco infant car seat to create a 3 in one travel system.

Most all-terrain pushchairs have air-filled tyres which offer excellent shock absorption and are perfect for rough terrain but they are more susceptible to punctures than solid EVA tyres found on city strollers, so it's worth buying a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump to go with your pushchair. Some all-terrain models have foam tyres which are less susceptible to punctures but they're not as good at absorption of shock and can be more difficult to push than tyres with air filled.

It can be used even from birth with a carrycot or a lie-flat chair.
